The original American steakhouse, announced today a partnership with Avalon Winery to offer a special wine pairing dinner for National Filet Mignon Day.

“Filet mignon is our best-selling steak, so National Filet Mignon Day is the perfect holiday to not only honor the steak, but partner with the beloved Sonoma-based Avalon Winery,” said Liz Geavaras, chief marketing officer, Black Angus Steakhouse.  “The special dinner pairs our filet mignon with Avalon’s popular California Cabernet Sauvignon, which has tasting notes of dark fruit, mocha and spice, with hints of vanilla.”

Willamette Valley Vineyards Bucking the Trend and Post Second Quarter Profits!

Willamette Valley Vineyards a leading Oregon producer of Pinot Noir, generated a 24% increase in income, raising share prices to $0.09 per share compared to $0.07 per share from the year before. Bucking what seems to be a downward spiral for many producers in the world of wine today. 

The numbers:

The Company produced revenues of $5,313,784 and $4,639,028 in second quarters of 2017 and 2016, respectively, an increase of $674,756 or 14.5%.  This increase was caused by an increase in direct sales, including bulk wine, of $429,653 and an increase in sales through distributors of $245,103. Selling, general and administrative expenses were $2,129,794 and $2,096,097 for the first quarters of 2017 and 2016, respectively, an increase of $33,697 or 1.6%. Income from operations was $1,059,140 and $828,204 for the second quarters of 2017 and 2016, respectively, an increase of $230,936 or 27.9%.  This increase was the result of growth in revenue that outpaced growth in selling, general and administrative expenses.

Florida Wine Academy Launches their 2017 Program

Florida Wine Academy, a leading wine education company, has just launched the Fall program for 2017. The program includes 19 different courses in English and Spanish throughout Florida. Featuring two new locations: Boca Raton, with the basic qualification in spirits, and Fort Lauderdale with the intermediate course in wine & spirits.

The Fall course schedule has just been released by the Florida Wine Academy, including two new locations:

Boca Raton is one of the wealthiest communities in South Florida and home to very prominent regional and corporate companies. It is also the residence of many wine and spirits lovers. “Our students and clients in the area have been asking us for the spirits course,” says Alessandra Esteves, the Director of Wine Education for the Florida Wine Academy. “People are curious about the production, the different qualities and how to taste and evaluate spirits. For this course, we taste ten spirits, from Cognac to Whisky to Vodka,” continues Alessandra.

The course will be on Saturday, September 16th at the Hilton Boca Raton Suites.

They will also offer classes in Fort Lauderdale. “We are happy to partner with Wine Watch, to provide the WSET Level 2 in Wines & Spirits,” says Guilherme Macedo, General Manager for the Florida Wine Academy. “The new wine bar looks spectacular, and it is perfect for teaching our intermediate course.” For this qualification, students taste more than 50 wines and learn about all the principal wine regions of the world. “Of course students shouldn’t swallow the wines. I need them to stay focused throughout class,” jokes Alessandra.

The WSET Level 2 course will be on Saturday and Sunday, October 7th and 8th at Wine Watch.

Washington’s largest winemaker-owned winery and the 4th largest wine producer in the state, today announced a new name for his international company – Wines of Substance. This launches a revitalized vision for his rich portfolio of high-caliber wines, including K Vintners, SIXTO, CasaSmith, Substance and B. Leighton.

“Substance is defined as the quality of being important, valid and significant,” said Charles Smith. “The driving force behind all of my creations is substance and ‘Wines of Substance’ is the perfect name to illustrate my philosophy of producing exceptional wines to be enjoyed by everyone around the globe.”

The new company name embodies the belief that having delicious wine, pouring it in a glass and sharing it among friends is what matters. The distractions that typically surround wine are absent. Wines of Substance continues Charles Smith’s dedication to producing the absolute best, which begins in the vineyard and ends in the glass.
